Our Physical History

In May 1998 a group of concerned Christians from the Fannin County area came together to discuss the possibility of forming a new congregation of the Lord’s Church. They were dismayed at how local
congregations were becoming more liberal and turning away from preaching the work of God. It was
decided at this meeting to form a new congregation dedicated to preaching and standing for the Truth. The search began for a place to worship and to look for land in order to build a permanent church building.

Within a week, a location for worship was secured at the historic Stanley Creek church building off Aska Road. The first services were held on May 20, 1998 with a tremendous turnout. In late summer 1998, land was purchased in the Hemptown section of Fannin County for the building of a 7,000 square foot church building. Ground was broken, and building began in October 1998. The people of the congregation, especially the older, retired members, did most of the work. The building was completed, and first services were held in March 1999. Our first Homecoming and Gospel Meeting was held in the new building in April 1999.

Since its beginning, Eastside has continued to grow and become more involved in spreading the Gospel. Our Annual Youth Bible Lectureship and Gospel Meeting each September continues to grow and is attended by groups from Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. We also have our Homecoming and Gospel Meeting each April with well-known preachers from the brotherhood. In 2002, we began mailing House to House, a Gospel teaching newsletter that reached more than 2,000 households in the eastern part of Fannin County. We also offer Bible correspondence courses to anyone who desires to learn
